Bill: Legislative Size, November 2483

Details

Submitted by[?]: Computational Intellect Project

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2484

Description[?]:

When the term size changed, we realized that the larger the legislature was, the less power each individual party had. Not only do larger legislatures represent the people more, but everything requires compromises.

Before, the two largest parties could vote in favor of a bill and make the majority. Now that the legislature is much larger, it takes the three largest, or four of the five largest in order to make a majority.

If we increase the legislative size to 750, it would further boost the democratic process and require much more compromise and cohesion in order for proposals to be passed. The largest parties would no longer dominate the political field. We have noticed during this term that there are a lot of proposals us three largest parties voted in favor of, but no one else did; meaning that a large portion of people were misrepresented.
