Message | No, if someone explicitely states he or she wants to donate his organs, family shouldn't interfere with that wish. Not all dead people are suitable as organ donors, they have to be young and healthy, and young healthy people don't die as often as old or sick people, unless they were in a car crash or an accident. At that time one has to act quickly (as organ degeneration starts quickly when death sets in), while the family of the deceiced are just beginning to mourn. Grieving family members are still emotional , and it's likely they will not approve of medics cutting open the body of their recently passed-away relative, which actually is a rational decision which might save other peoples lives. |

Message | And on the flip side, if the organs are necessary and the person does not want to give them up, the next of kin can authorize it. |
Date | 20:01:22, November 12, 2007 CET | From | Judicial Union Party | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act |
Message | Organ donations should be compulsory. The deceased is not using them, and they may save several other peoples' lives. A family member should not be able to override the wishes of the deceased, in any case. The reason we don't have compulsory organ donation is to give effect to personal choice, that is, so a person can choose whether or not they wish to save another person. If we allow the next of kin to override that, what is the point of even considering personal choice? There would be none. |
Date | 02:15:43, November 13, 2007 CET | From | Red Hammer Council | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act |
Message | Opposed. Every single organ is vital and can save human lives, THEREFOR we must maintain the possibility of using them for those who need it the most, and take them from the people who don't need them anymore. |
