From | Tuesday Is Coming | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | VoxPop and the Democrat have proven, through publishing false information, that they are unreliable media sources. A better option would be to remove the government funding from TV and radio. |

From | Tuesday Is Coming | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | The Democrat published false information about someone. In defense of their statements, there were statements made that "false information is not against the law". As it has been proven to be as reliable as a tabloid, we now regard it as such. |

From | Adam Smith Party | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | This has nothing to do with government funding or not. That is a different debate. This is about holding journalists to the same laws of libel that the rest of the nation are subject to. If you or I were to publish an unfactual claim about someone, then we could be prosecuted by that pereson, however the media are at current granted immunity to this right of redress. That has to be changed. |

From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | If the TiC criminals were to check the publication carrying the alleged article they will see that it doesn't exist. If they wish to persist with the accusation, it can, of course, exist again - and will have been brought into being by TiC.

From | Adam Smith Party | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | And cute means skillful. Words change their meanings with usage POATN, and tabloid means popular sensationalist irresponsible journalism now. |

From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | Vox Pop Media has a policy that includes only presenting fact as fact. There is no reason to change the law, at present, if someone is not satisfied with the media they consume, they can turn to Vox Pop. |

From | Adam Smith Party | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | There have been cases of Vox Pop misrepresenting the facts. Whether this is editorial policy, or simply as a result of the enforced amateurism is open to debate. We would be more than willing to close down Vox Pop if necessary but we prefer to simply make the need to fact check stories before broadcasting them imperative. This strikes us as a sensible compromise. |

From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | "Tabloid" used to be synonymous with sensationalist irresponsible journalism but since The Independent, The Times and The Telegraph have all launched tabloid versions the tabloid v broadsheet description is unsatisfactory and misleading. More commonly, these former "Tabloids" are referred to as Red Tops (because mostly their titlepiece - often wrongly called the masthead - is either in red text or is a white reverse on a red box). They are also called the "pops" where the distinction suggests the populist press v the "serious" press.
However, the phrase "News International" is perhaps the most accurate descriptor of the kind of publication to which you refer.
As far as the bill goes, do you plan similar restraints on other businesses which make mistakes?
Given the bill is concerned with accuracy, you may also wish to edit the words "factually", "inaccurate" and "radio". |
Date | 22:04:49, August 27, 2005 CET |
From | Adam Smith Party | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | Yes we can correct how you hear what we say. Other businesses are already restricted by libel laws, it is only the media that is exempt.
What are these "News International, The Independent, The Times and The Telegraph" that you refer to? |
Date | 23:11:10, August 27, 2005 CET |
From | National People's Gang | To | Debating the Responsible journalism only. | Message | "Due to the number of recent cases in which innocent individuals have had their lives ruined due to [ factualy ] inaccurate material being printed in the nation newspapers"
May we request that members of ASP do not apply for fact checking positions in Lodamun media companies?
