Bill: Socialist taxation proposal of 2490

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Workers' Party and CTUL List

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2490

Description[?]:

This proposal shifts the burden of taxation from essential items to luxury goods. This shift will ensure the poorest in Likatonia can again afford bread and milk. While we have significantly raised the taxation on luxury goods, we have maintained a nominal 5% tax on essential items purely as a safety net: if this taxation programme is successful, we intend to eradicate tax on essentials entirely.

MessageWe are wary of supporting any "socialist propositions" but we have decided to support this measure for two reasons:

1) We believe in the least possible mandatory taxation of the people, and shifting the tax burden from essentials to luxuries gives the individual greater choice in how much they will pay the government.

2) After doing the math, the overall money taken from the people is actually less by an amount of ~30B LIK.

We support the intent of this bill, and even an increase in the Luxury Tax, but 50% is TOO high. We will support but would like to see it reduced to the 35% level at a later date.

MessageHow is 50% too high? It is only on luxuries. For members of the CWFP, let us explain - 'luxuries' means the things you don't need.

Random fact: Don't vote yes on a cabinet coalition that doesn't give you the power that you deserve.
