Bill: Education Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Liberal Alliance

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2039

Description[?]:

All children are entitled to an education; indeed education should be and is compulsory, but children deserve the best education possible. State funded education systems have consistently been shown to disadvatage the poorer sections of society, who must languish in failing state schools whilst those who can pay to attend the very best private schools. This disparity in education should cease and all children regardless of background should have the opportunity to attend the very best schools. This bill therefore proposes that the education system be completely privatised as this will drive up educational standards as schools compete to attract pupils. The government will of course ensure that all children are offered a place at a school and are committed to providing vouchers to pay for the education of those who cannot afford to themselves. Means testing will be introduced to determine eligibility for government funding, on a sliding scale from complete payment of fees for the very poorest to some financial assistance for those able to partially meet the cost of their childrens' education.

MessageGood idea. We shall have to look over the voucher system, of course, and make sure that it doesn't discriminate against any groups. But the bill as a whole has our support.
