Message | Are local governments not the best at picking out those designated areas and times for their specific area? Why should we jump in and just highlight a couple areas in yellow on a map and call open game? This is unnecessary nation-wide bureaucracy. We support current legislation |

Message | The Yellow Party has said it best, in our view. The local communities are best equipped to protect their own envoronments. |

Message | The problem with that conclusion is you are assuming that governments are actually concerned with their local ecosystem, while the sad truth is though who wish to protect the environment are if not always, almost always among the minority. To leave the decision of what can be hunted and fished up to the local community has to problems, 1) many people are concerned with the growth of economy over the ecosystem, so it will not be protected, 2) this causes quarrels among neighboring communities, since the population of one animal ties in with the whole ecosystem, and the hunting of one animal might hurt the population of another. To leave the regulation of this to those working at the small scale will not work because the ecosystem works on a large scale. |

Message | We thank the Democratic Idealists for their reasoned argument. Our response is below. It is true that local governments may not always consider the effect of their policies on the environment. However, in the long term this is not a problem with a federal system itself but with the education of our citizens. As long as our schools teach environmental preservations as a way of life, our citizens and our local governments will make choices that reflect those values. And, if we cannot trust our local governments to make environmentally sound choices, we cannot trust individuals to. Since individuals wield most power in any liberal society, our focus should be on education and not on centralization. |

Message | The question at hand then would be whether the current status of education on environmental preservation is sufficient enough to instill understanding of the situation to the level that it is recognized by the individuals as a value and accepted as so. If this can be ensured then leaving the decision to local community would be more effective since they would have a better understanding of what the ecosystem will undergo as a result of hunting and fishing, however unless this can be insured local communities should not be given the ability to establish the hunting regulations on the fact that the public is not voting based on knowledge of the situation and can cause irreversible consequences not only to themselves but neighboring communities. |

Message | We then can respectfully disagree on the level which the public awareness has up to now reached. |

Message | Then to ensure the preservation of the ecosytem, establish a non-madatory class in school teaching children the value of enviromental presavation, and that a course be taught on the ecosystem and the importance of it's preservation in biology. To help raise the awarness of the public. |

Message | Well that was the best (and certainly most civilized) argument we've had in Ikradon in a long time. The Yellow Party would ask for the Finance Department in partnership with the Education and Environmental Departments to administer (and fully subsidize to cover both public and private schools) a course on biology and ecosystems. We are thinking that this needs to be a high level class, so perhaps a junior (100) year in high school required class followed by an optional senior (200) level class. Irregardless, however, we still support current legislation. |
