Bill: Budget proposal of March 2493
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberty Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2494
Description[?]:
"The economy is becoming more private. Regulation is decreasing. Programs that require funding continue to be devolutionized to a Provincial level for the local governments to continue if they wish. However, Internal Affairs, such as the police force, Education and Defense need the most possible funding to protect Zardugalies from ignorance, crime and foreign powers. In recognition of this situation, the Liberty Party proposes this new budget." ~Michale Tucker, Minister of Finance |

Message | We at the Revolutionary Socialist Party believe that overall this budget contains far too many drastic slashes in necessary industries, which we are only have trouble paying for because taxes on the wealthy and on corporations are far too low, and in any case there are key departments that cannot be abandoned. *Science and Technology is low enough as it is. We are not going to advocate increase, but believe it cannot be cut any further than it is. *Food and Agriculture is one of the most crucial departments in the budget, and cannot be cut, especially at such drastic levels. It demands mild increases, not destruction, for the implementation of that F&A budget would likely be nothing short of catastrophic for the salt-of-the-earth Zardugali farmer. *Trade and Industry, and Health and Social Services both need decent increases, not slashes. *Education and Culture is doing fine, slashing 50 billion zardugals would be detrimental to our image and our children. Cutting up to 10 billion zardugals seems feasible from it though. *The slashes in Foreign Affairs are unconscionable, it is far too risky to alienate Zardugal from her neighbors. Foreign Affairs should not be cut, it will end up hurting our international image and our trade prospects, as well as the furthering of democracy and human rights in less enlightened nations than Zardugal. *We do approve of the cuts in Defence and Internal Affairs, though we think that Internal Affairs should only be cut to about 40 billion zardugals so as not to jeopardize our internal security and crime rates. This should result in a more than balanced bill, which will free up billions of zardugals for use in necessary social programs. |

Message | "As it now stands, the education system should not take such a large hit in these new cuts. There is still a very large public education system, and it is my belief that such a system should not be so needlessly cut. I would rather see deeper cuts in the regulatory ministries such as the sciences than see such a drastic cut in education. However, in the grand scheme of things, this is a very water-tight budget (tax proposal included) up for consideration." -Chancellor Henry Percival, Duke of Lawlborough |

Message | I believe that education should be kept where it is but I agree with the Cavalier party in that you can cut more in the regulatory ministries such as Env and Tourism, |

Message | OOC: I'm cutting almost everything because the government doesn't give kick backs to industry, nor do we operate national corporations in any of the cut industries. As for education, that was a mistake, I meant to increase it. If the Directory passes this bill I will propose a new budget with education spending at around 200 000 000 000. I too believe it to be imperative to our nation's future. |

Message | OOC: Set everything to 0 because your state of choice does nothing for its people, therefore we need no money to spend and can maximize profits ;) |

Message | I shall vote for this on the condition of the increase in education funding |

Message | OOC: That's an IC statement. For all you know I could be a fanatical Communist just having fun being a Libertarian. IC: "My idea of government is to maintain law and order, settle disputes between individuals and protect the civil liberties of Zardugalies from criminals and foreign invaders." ~Michale Tucker, Minister of Finance |

Random fact: Particracy allows you to establish an unelected head of state like a monarch or a president-for-life, but doing this is a bit of a process. First elect a candidate with the name "." to the Head of State position. Then change your law on the "Structure of the executive branch" to "The head of state is hereditary and symbolic; the head of government chairs the cabinet" and change the "formal title of the head of state" to how you want the new head of state's title and name to appear (eg. King Percy XVI). |
