Description[?]:
Many political minorities, be they women, homosexuals, or certain ethnic groups, can too easily find themselves the victims of discrimination in the workplace. It is the duty of the government not just to ensure this discrimination isn't permitted, but that it is countered by encouraging employers to hire political minorities. Because local govenrments are best able to judge the conditions of its residents, we feel local governments should set the standards use for encouraging the hiring of political minorities. |

Message | It is true that we must fight all kinds of discrimination in Malivia, and by all the so called 'positive discrimination' is included, there is no such thing as positive discrimination and one can even argue it is the worst kind of them all, discrimination encouraged by the government. No, we will vote against this proposal in order to try to make Malivia more equal, may the best man/woman get the job. |
Date | 00:18:29, August 29, 2005 CET | From | Leviathan Party | To | Debating the Positive Discrimination |
Message | The problem is that, when discrimination is the rule in a workplace, the best person for the job is not always the one who is hired. All this law will do is allow local governments to pass positive discrimination laws in their province if they find the measures are necessary; it does not mandate that positive discrimination take place, it merely adds one more too to the government's aresenal to use against discrimination against minorities. |
Date | 01:28:45, August 29, 2005 CET | From | Social and Labour Reform Party | To | Debating the Positive Discrimination |
Message | Positive discrimination is still discrimination, so regretfully we will have to vote against this proposal. What we should encourage is that people are hired regardless of anything other than their ability for the job, not because a company doesn't have enough coloured people on it's employment roster and needs to boost its figures. |
