Message | I understand that this will pass and it's the only sensible policy in a socialist economy. As such I expect every other party will vote for it. However before people start sharpening their knives, I'll explain my position. It comes down to two causes. One is that to be honest I'd prefer the privately run but subsidised option and this alone would fit into my party's ideology, and if I were to vote for every consensus here the II's consistency ratings would go to hell and there'd be essentially no meaning to the party anyway. The second is that somewhere between 40-60% of voters will always side with one vote or another, and for turnout's sake it's better to give them some choice via their representatives in the Soviet than only one option. I can hear NFC's teeth gritting right now, I'll end my argument right here. But just for a moment, imagine through some Particracy history you found yourself the only authoritarian party in a permissive paradise ... you know your votes won't harm things but that there is an arithmetic cost in hiding your views. |

Message | *Chuckles*. Actually, I WAS gritting my teeth just when I got to the bottom. I'd hold it more against you if your vote counted in this particular proposal...but it doesn't. I think it'll pass regardless. Obviously I vote for nationalizing the defense industry. We can't have the screwball private sector controlling our tanks and planes. That's absurd. |

Message | You pose a good point - which is that once in a while my vote will decide issues, The way I look at it is: if it ain't about socialism, then I get to vote as I like (example: the animal testing ban vote). But if it is about socialism, then I'd debate with other parties, and if it really came to it, I'd probably abstain if my say was really going to be the clincher. It makes for interesting debates regardless! |

Message | yeah II should never be forced to change his vote unless its actually going to be the clincher (same goes for any other party ) also it can only be enforced where there is complete agreement among socialist parties on the issue (i.e. its a core socialist issue) . As for this I'll back it . |
