Bill: Restoration of the Monarchy
Details
Submitted by[?]: New Liberal Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2501
Description[?]:
We believe that each nation which strives to achieve a greater place in this world must have a leader who could impose respect and who would have prestige. Our party believes that such a head of state can mostly be found in a constitutional monarchy, due to the fact that the monarchic institution is one which has greater prestige compared to a simple presidential institution. We will leave this bill to debate, hoping that all parties will express their opinion on this matter. |

Message | I believe that in order for us to have an open discussion on this matter, we should all understand the present chain of command in our government, and be told of its importance to Pontesi. Therefore, the UUP asks the ETPRP and/or the ONCP to please present information on this here: it is our understanding that the Head of State, our Atabeg, is the Executive leader (president) whereas the Chancellor-Vizier is the senate leader--but is the Chancellor Vizier second in command to the Atabeg? Do their present duties overlap? Has Pontesi fully established formal chain of command, if so, I would like to see it so we can all understand it properly. Having said that, the UUP would not be in favor of reverting to a constitutional monarchy from our present system because it is contrary to the democratic principles upheld by our party, and we will oppose this change. |

Message | We do not believe that a constitutional monarchy could threaten democracy! There are enough examples on Terra to sustain this idea. The role of Atabeg is symbolical, as I have seen. What does it matter if this symbolical role would be maintained for life? It could be an advantage, due to the fact that the way our country would be represented in the same manner for a lifetime. However, to ensure that the monarch does not abuse his constitutional powers, we would also promote an article (if this is possible, please tell me how to do it!) which would state that the monarch may be overthrown by a large majority of the Parliament. |
