Bill: Withdrawel from the Convention on the Rights of the Child

Details

Submitted by[?]: Freedom Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2502

Description[?]:

This treaty is politically biased and flawed, it goes against the principles of Rutania.

"Principle 4

The child shall enjoy the benefits of social security. He or she shall be entitled to grow and develop in health; to this end, special care and protection shall be provided both to him or her and to his or her mother, including adequate pre-natal and post-natal care. The child shall have the right to adequate nutrition, housing, recreation and medical services."

This mandates social security and the welfare state

Principle 5

The child who is physically, mentally or socially handicapped shall be given the special treatment, education and care required by his or her particular condition.

"Principle 7

The child is entitled to receive education, which shall be free and compulsory, at least in the elementary stages. He or she shall be given an education which will promote his or her general culture and enable him or her, on a basis of equal opportunity, to develop his or her abilities, his or her individual judgement, and his or her sense of moral and social responsibility, and to become a useful member of society.

The best interests of the child shall be the guiding principle of those responsible for his or her education and guidance; that responsibility lies in the first place with his or her parents.

The child shall have full opportunity for play and recreation, which should be directed to the same purposes as education; society and the public authorities shall endeavour to promote the enjoyment of this right."

This states that we must have state education, this does not allow us to have voluntary education, compulsory private education, or education which is privately run but has government vouchers for poor families.

"Principle 10

The child shall be protected from practices which may foster racial, religious and any other form of discrimination. He or she shall be brought up in a spirit of understanding, tolerance, friendship among peoples, peace and universal brotherhood, and in full consciousness that his or her energy and talents should be devoted to the service of his or her fellow men.

The child shall be protected from influences which may disable him or her to develop physically, mentally, morally, spiritually and socially in a healthy and normal manner individually, and in conditions of freedom and dignity, or which may push his or her moral, spiritual or social development in a certain direction."

This states that children have to be brought up in a spirit of universal brotherhood, aka, socialism, instead of according to the wishes of the parents.

Do we not believe in the rights of parents to bring up their children free from government interference?

For these reasons, we ask the Rutanian parties to support our withdrawal from these treaties for the future of Rutania and in the interests of an open democratic system.

Message"The Freedom Party thinks that parents have the right to treat their children like animals, if they wish to do so?"

We ask the Democratic Liberals to read the article, and our response. The article states

"The child shall be protected from influences which may disable him or her to develop physically, mentally, morally, spiritually and socially in a healthy and normal manner individually, and in conditions of freedom and dignity, or which may push his or her moral, spiritual or social development in a certain direction."

That says that the child cannot be influenced to being ultra sporty, or from being lethargic as that would "influence them to develop in a manner that is not normal on the physical side. It says that morally, and spiritually they must be developed to be "healthy and normal".

Who defines what is "healthy and normal". What is healthy and normal for me might seriously hurt someone else.

It also states that parents may not push a child in a certain moral, social, or spiritual direction. This bans parents from taking their children to church, from talking about their politics, from taking them to social events, because after all, that pushes a child in a certain "social direction"

IN short, this treaty is flawed, contradictory, and against the interests of children in Rutania.

MessageThe Freedom Party stated:

"This states that children have to be brought up in a spirit of universal brotherhood ... instead of according to the wishes of the parents."

This would seem to mean that the Freedom Party advocates the rights of parents to bring up their children with values of bigotry and prejudice if they so choose. This is morally reprehensible and we would never support such an ideology.

Any parents who would not wish to bring up their children in a spirit of universal brotherhood are not fit to be parents, and are just the sort of people against whom this treaty was designed to protect.

MessageNot at all. Universal brotherhood can often be interpreted as looking after each other, aka socialism. I advocate the right of parents to bring up their kids to be libertarians, to bring up their kids to be self-reliant, not to rely on others for help but be self sufficient and self reliant.

Parents do not have bring up kids in a spirit of universal brotherhood to bring up well mannered, respectful kids. Merely bringing them up that the initiation of force is wrong will mean they will be less likely to harm others and still be friendly and respectful of other human beings.

Besides this treaty is flawed as it states that we must have state education, this does not allow us to have voluntary education, compulsory private education, or education which is privately run but has government vouchers for poor families.
