Bill: Capital Punishment Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: United Liberal Alliance
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2106
Description[?]:
As you all know, the UCA is opposed to the use of the death penatly and have tried to ban it a number of times. Whilst we still hold this view, we realise that this is not possible at the moment, particularly after recent events. Therefore we ask that the death penatly is restricted to those convicted of terrorism or treason offences or crimes against humanity. This would still allow the worst offenders and those committing extraordinary crimes to be executed if this was deemed the best punishment. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Government policy with respect to the death penalty.
Old value:: The death penalty is applied for capital crimes.
Current: The death penalty is illegal and is never to be applied.
Proposed: The death penalty is not applied, except for terrorism, treason and crimes against mankind.

Message | No the only way to keep a person from killing again is to kill him/her or to lock him/her up for life, and locking him/her up for life means the victims family has to be pay for them in prison which I find wrong. Unless the victims family can have an opinion in the sentance then they should recieve death if 100% guilty. |

Message | The death penalty is not about punishment. It is about getting rid of of people that are useless to society. |

Message | Independents: Then if that is why you want the death penalty it is just plain wrong. Any sentence must be about justice and punishment. |

Message | No its not. Letting someone rot in jail for the rest of their life is a waste. Better to just end it now. Makes room for more prisoners too. |

Message | Isn't it great that the IP has faith in the infaillability of the justice system, but no other arm of the government? The death penalty is little more than state sanctioned murder, it is a remenant of feudal governments which ruled by fear, there is no need for it in modern society. |

Message | Fine then go donate to keep them alive. I am not going to waste my taxes to keeping some murderer alive. You can, i won't. |

Message | The problem I have with government is that they are inneficient in most things compared to the private sector. That is it. Someone is (or should be) only convicted of murder if it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they did it. So there should be no problem. There will be no innocent people getting put to death. This is not the 1970's. We have DNA evidence to go by, and many other methods to prove if someone is guilty or not. There are tons of people nowadays that get off because of lack of evidence or other reasons (O.J. Simpson). So only the real murderers will be put to death. How is it better to keep someone locked up for the rest of their life eating tax dollars, than to just rid of them? |

Random fact: Real-life organisations should not be referenced in Particracy, unless they are simple and generic (eg. "National Organisation for Women" is allowed). |
Random quote: "In Germany they first came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me--and by that time no one was left to speak up." - Pastor Martin Niemoller |
