Message | oppose. luxury goods by definition are not "needed" by anyone whether rich or poor. ie, luxury spending is solely for the sake of conspicuous consumption. under that definition of luxury I would favor a luxury sales tax rate as high as 50%. |

Message | we agree with JDW. those luxury goods are those which display an achieved economic standing. By definition they are not necessary for people to further themselves. the tax rate is fine where it is, no lower. a loss in that money will indeed encourage irresponsible spending...neither a good attribute of a nation, nor its people. |

Message | Luxury goods make people happy. Happiness is something we should try to achieve for all our citizens. |

Message | And hiking luxury taxes means less people will be able to afford them which means less people will buy which will mean less income for business which means less people which will increase unemployment. |

Message | "Why GLDS when this will allow more poorer peope to afford luxury goods? Don't you care about the poor?" This is bull. A luxury tax is a typical tax on rich people. "Luxury goods make people happy. Happiness is something we should try to achieve for all our citizens." Also bull. Do you really think they'ld be happier if we'ld lower the tax rate on ferrari's, diamonds,..etc? Luxury doesn't make poor people happy.. They care about food, clothing, a decent accomodation. That's what they spend their money on. |

Message | So they do not spend money on cars for transportation? that's a luxury! What about refrigerators? That's also a luxury. As are washers and dryers, microwaves, and a whole slew of other odds and ends. I see GLDS that you do not want to make these items more affordable. Attack the poor to attack the rich. HAHA! |
Date | 00:03:01, December 28, 2007 CET | From | Judicial Union Party | To | Debating the Luxury Tax Cut |
Message | Refrigerators, washing machines and such are not luxuries - not in today's world. |

Random fact: When it comes to creating a Cultural Protocol in a Culturally Open nation, players are not necessarily required to provide a plausible backstory for how the nation's cultural background developed. However, the provision of a plausible backstory may be a factor in whether Moderation approves the Cultural Protocol if players in surrounding nations question its appropriateness for their region of the game map. |
