Bill: Cabinet Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Independence Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2511

Description[?]:

The Federation has, of late, been unable to agree upon the formation of a government. This has been something of a continuing problem in the IFD. The United Party, with regret, feels that it is time to move to a system that will ensure the timely formation of governments, so that the people may be represented and enjoy a more efficient administration.

1) The Constitutional Right and Responsibility to Propose a Cabinet

We hope that by only permitting the largest parties to form a cabinet we will avoid the glut of cabinet proposals that accompany a system where any party can propose a cabinet. According to the forum, this means the largest SINGLE party or the parties tied for that position. Generally, then, it will fall to only one party to propose a cabinet.

2) The Structure of the Executive Branch

By moving to such a system, it is only right that the party who proposes an acceptable cabinet to the Senate be allowed to take the position of Head of Government. A more parliamentary system requires this, as the government will reflect the will of a party, rather than the will of the President.

MessageWe support full democracy, and although this doesn't support it, it is better than the dictating regime today. Dissent will not be repressesed.

PS - Consul sounds better than Chancellor though.
