MessageThere are those who believe the pot industry of Andalay is more important than the mental health and well being of individuals, who (perhaps naively) take such mind bending intoxicants and expect no long lasting repucussions. Human well being should not be sacrificed for the profit of pot farmers.

Equally, abuse of alcohol from an early age could lead to increased rates of liver disease in earlier age groups.

What about tobacco, or prozac, or sugar, or coffee, or guaranį? etc.

Opposed. Peoples bodies are the one thing that they can claim unequivocally to belong to them. They should be able to do wjhat they want with them provided that this does not directly impinge on others.

When (through the influence of drugs) people committ crime and create anti-social disturbances, how is this not directly impinging on others? These crimes then have to be investigated and followed up by the police, which takes time away from the general maintenance of law and order in Lodamun. If caught committing crimes (inspired by drug abuse), the justice system has to take time and money in order to process these cases. Then society has to go to the cost of deciding how to deal with these criminals - either through prison (funded at the expense of the taxpayer) or through rehabiltitation programmes. Drug abuse effects everyone and therefore it is no longer matter of personal liberty: it becomes a matter for society at large.

Alchol abuse in youth causes similar problems. Alcohol related crime amongst younger people will sore and addiction to alcohol from an early age will lead to huge health problems later on. These health problmes means that hospital beds will be taken away from those with real illnesses and be given to those who irresponsibly abused intoxicants. So therefore, once again, we reach a point where individual liberty (and governmental irresponsibilty) is having detrimental effects on others.

"What about tobacco, or prozac, or sugar, or coffee, or guaranį? etc."

I'll move onto tobacco later. Prozac has various medicinal uses (it can be used to treat depression). The effects of coffee and sugar, even after long term usage, are nowhere near as prolific as the short term effects of heroin or crack cocaine.

MessageYou are way behind the times on the medical literature if you think that heroin is more damaging and more addictive than refined sugar (sucrose). However the point is that the body belongs to the individual, they are entitled to abuse it if they so wish.

Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." - Winston Churchill
