Bill: Respect for local customs
Details
Submitted by[?]: Cooperative Commonwealth Federation
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2106
Description[?]:
Among some minority groups, there are nudity taboos. Among others, special forms of dress are cusomary. In some regions, conservative morality is high, while in others it is very progressive. Considering all this, the national government shall devolve policy on forms of dress and undress to the local level. Those communities that wish to enforce modesty in dress may do so; those with more progressive thinking may allow nudity freely. |

Old value:: There are no laws with regards to public nudity, it is allowed.

Message | Why do there have to be explicit laws concerning this. The society is self regulating according to the culture of the area. Our objection is to the need to explicitly codify anything at all. |

Message | I object on the basis that this sort of policy should be handled by central government as special treatment for minority groups will only promote resentment and mistrust in the supposed ideal of a mulitcultural society. Equality is a two way street: ethnic minorities should expect to be treated equally but in return they should expect not to be granted special provisions unavailable to the rest of the government. I may support this but only as a temporary measure until I can bring in centralised reform. |

Message | There are already regulations: in another less than brilliantly-worded proposal, the current value is: "There are no laws with regards to public nudity, it is allowed." Public nudity is currently allowed thoughout Lodamun. |

Message | If something is not explicitly prohibited in a penal code, then it is allowed. Whether it is done and accepted is another thing and that depends on culture not on laws. Prohibition of actions should only be necessary where those actions are either harmful to others - which nudity is not, or the actions would impinge on the freedom of choice of the individual, which again nudity does not. There is no justification for this law. What is happening here is that some groups in a region can take this and use it to impose their moral values on the rest of the people of that region. Thus we oppose. |

Message | This is slightly better than the lawless state that we have at the moment in this area and as such I think I can offer my support. |
