Bill: Gay and Lesbian Republic of Aldegar Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Ducal Delegation
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 2107
Description[?]:
This is an Act to change Aldegar's official title to the 'Gay and Lesbian Republic of Aldegar'. If a two-thirds majority of the Grand Council support it, we will put a request on the forum for our name to be changed, as per the offical procedure (see http://www.takeforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=71&mforum=particracy). Passing this Act will give Aldegar a unique and distinctive character in the Particracy World, making us the first nation ever of its type. It would massively bolster our tourist industry and suck in the 'Pink Pound'. This Act would confirm Aldegar's status in the world as a distinctive, progressive, radical, free-thinking and socially accepting country, at the forefront of the cutting edge of modernity. Whilst Aldegar would, of course, continue to be a home for people of ALL sexualities, religions and races, we believe this transformation of Aldegar's image would do wonders for its international reputation. |

Message | How is... no... this is a joke, right? The Alliance of Free Persons supports the rights of people to go about their lives as they see fit, but we simply cannot lump all out citizens together under this one banner. We must be one Aldegar for all Aldegarans. What's next? Taking the vote away from our heterosexual citizens? |

Message | This Bill already has a majority but the Neo-Progressive Party would like to voice it's dissent on a number of issues. Firstly, the proposed name change is highly exclusionary not only for heterosexuals but also other sexualities often umbrella'd under the GBLTIQ banner. The Queer Republic of Aldegar would be a more appropriate name if you are seeking to establish a more progressive and tolerant nation whilst explicitly nominating a priviledged sexuality. Futhermore, it is not necessarily exclusionary of any sexual practice, including heterosexuality. Secondly, this proposal stinks of seperatism. This is not Stonewall 1969, this is Aldegar 2106. The Neo-Progressive Party believes the citizens of Aldegar seek unity and harmony, and can ensure equality amongst our citizens without priviledging a particular group within the name of the nation. (ooc: i'm actually queer so i find this quite interesting) |

Message | The Alliance of Free Persons makes a wonderful suggestion- take the vote away from heterosexuals. Heterosexuality is not normal - it's just plain COMMON! Let us encourage our citizens to move towards a more wholesome gay/lesbian lifestyle. |

Message | We'd like to emphasise that the proposed 'Gay and Lesbian Republic' is not intended to be exclusive - rather, it is intended to give us a certain uniqueness which will benefit all of our citizens - whatever their sexuality or background. A special effort would be made to promote the gay and lesbian tourist industry, and to establish communites which are safe for sexual minorities, but no attempt would be made to 'indoctrinate' people into a culture or a sexuality which goes against their own leanings. There would be no discrimination. Most certainly, no attempt would be made to expect Aldegarian parties to identify themselves as 'gay/lesbian'. All this Act will do is give our nation a special flavour, and cause a few heads to turn :-)... |

Message | This has got to be an absolute joke. We do not believe that anybody can take this seriously. First Extreme Ironing as our sport, then this as our title. Is it April Fools Day every day for the Democratic Alliance? |

Message | OOC: remember that changing the name of a nation is subject to Admin approval, and silly names are thus barred. |

Message | This is going further then equal rights, this is giving more rights to another party. Or at least suggesting it. |

Random fact: Particracy has been running since 2005. Dorvik was Particracy's first nation, the Dorvik Social Democrats the first party and the International Greens the first Party Organisation. |
