Bill: School Prayer Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Progressive Liberal Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2107
Description[?]:
This Act proposes that teacher-led prayer be forbidden in schools, expect religious schools. We propose this Act in order to ensure that the religious freedom of students is not infringed by teachers who may utilise the unequal power relationship between students and teachers in order to advance their own religious beliefs. |

Debate
These messages have been posted to debate on this bill:
Date | 09:55:38, September 06, 2005 CET | From | Ducal Delegation | To | Debating the School Prayer Act |
Message | We believe a diversity in schools for parents to choose from should be allowed, and that it should be up to the schools to decide when or whether prayers are included. The one thing we do insist upon is that all schools should encourage tolerance for all faiths and those of no faith. |
Date | 11:42:14, September 06, 2005 CET | From | Novy Smer Party | To | Debating the School Prayer Act |
Message | We strongly support this bill. We did propose this ourselves recently. |
Date | 14:55:56, September 06, 2005 CET | From | Sanctaphrax Party | To | Debating the School Prayer Act |
Message | We strongly support this. Prayers should be allowed in religious schools only. |
Date | 18:08:34, September 06, 2005 CET | From | Progressive Liberal Party | To | Debating the School Prayer Act |
Message | I'd like to note that this does not ban student initiated prayer in school. It merely forbids teachers from doing so. An active religious element can therefore be maintained in schools, whilst providing students protection from overzealous teachers. |
