Bill: A Bill to Lower the Luxury Goods Sales Tax

Details

Submitted by[?]: The Organization for Economic Freedom

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2528

Description[?]:

The Luxury Goods Sales tax has been determined by the authors of this legislation to be an undue burden upon the citizenry of the Great Commonwealth of Rutania. The money removed from Rutania's dynamic, strong economy works to the overall detriment of the country through its expenditure on pork-barrel projects and un-needed, outdated government programs. In addition, the Luxury Goods Sales Tax discourages the overall consumption of Luxury Goods, and thus is detrimental to the country's Gross Domestic Product.

MessageA tax of 5% is small by comparison to other nations, furthermore, there are very little wasteful government programmes as the Rutanian Government is one of the most libertarian, capitalist and low tax governments on the face of Terra. Where is the income going to come from to pay for our defence, police, courts and fire services?

MessageIdeally, lowering the sales tax will encourage productivity and increase the mean income of families in Rutania. The Defense budget already dwarves other government spending by at least 6 times. I highly doubt such a skewed distribution of government funds is either necessary or beneficial to the welfare of the populace. Cutting corners particularly in the form of Defense budget cuts, will put money back into the hands of the Rutania people. It will foster economic growth as well as greater retail investment in Rutania.
