Bill: FreeFarm: Legislation to ensure the freedom of Rutania's Agricultural Industry

Details

Submitted by[?]: The Organization for Economic Freedom

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2528

Description[?]:

This legislation seeks to abolish the expensive and unnecessary practice of required chemical lists concerning the crops of Rutania farmers. As of July 2525. Rutania Farmers are required to submit to the government a list of chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, etc. that are used on their crops. This process undoubtably places a large burden on the farmers of Rutania, a burden on their industry that is particular and specific. This unreasonable monetary burden greatly inhibits the growth of the Agricultural Industry and the Economic growth of Rutania as a whole.

MessageAll the more reason to pass this. The farmers must pay for this expense that is exclusive to this industry, and presumably now must pay for the fees involved with printing such lists, ensuring lists accuracies, etc. Upon examination, we have no pollutant/ food inspection regulations other than this. The fact that the farmers need to spend the time and money making these lists is ridiculous when one looks at the lack of regulation elsewhere in the production and manufacturing industries.

MessageBut who will stop farmers from putting potentially lethal chemicals into our food? This is there to prevent toxins getting into our food chain. What if DDT is used? We have seen what it does to rabbits in the past; what could happen to humans if they receive too much?

MessageIf we go with your logic, then it is unacceptable that the country has no regulation on health and safety processes in other industries. Bearing down on only the farmers is frankly unfair.

MessageSpecifically, I would like to call to Parliament's attention that "There is no requirement to disclose Gentically Modified ingredients, or chemicals used in agrigulture or processing."

If there is no requirement to disclose chemicals, etc on food packaging, then it is futile to require lists of chemicals used on their crops.

I agree. We want to introduce health and safety regulations in the workplace, for the protection of our citizens.
