Bill: 5th Proposal For the Removal of a State Religion
Details
Submitted by[?]: The Organization for Economic Freedom
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2530
Description[?]:
Upon review of Rutania's laws and statutes, The Organization for Economic Freedom finds that there is currently an Official State Religion. The Organization for Economic Freedom feels that such a statement in support of a particular religion will undoubtedly engender negative perception of other religions not receiving the sponsorship of the state. The OEF feels that the state should make no law in regards to the establishment of religion. Religion is a private matter that ought to be free of the influence of the state. This bill will continue to be presented until the opposition delineates clear reasons for their stance. |

Message | I might also add that current law says that the State shall make no interference in matters of religion whatsoever...clearly there is contradiction in the laws of Rutania that must be mended. |

Message | Not true. There is an official State religion, BUT MEMBERSHIP IS COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY. In no way does that mean that the State interferes with matters of religion. Effectively, the State religion exists officially for ceremonial purposes. |
Date | 19:37:18, February 10, 2008 CET | From | The Organization for Economic Freedom | To | Debating the 5th Proposal For the Removal of a State Religion |
Message | Showing preference for a particular religion gives that religion an unprecedented advantage. You said so yourself: "People should have the freedom to choose, or not choose, their own religion. The presence of a State Religion gives that particular religion an upper hand, even if attendance is non-compulsory." -New Conservatives Party- 19:46:00, February 03, 2008 CET |
Date | 19:40:57, February 10, 2008 CET | From | The Organization for Economic Freedom | To | Debating the 5th Proposal For the Removal of a State Religion |
Message | Furthermore, the very presence of state-sponsored religion, voluntary or not, is an interference by the state into matters of religion. |
