Message | At our last budget conference, it was widely agreed that Aloria's government is substantially underfunded. At that time, the floor figure suggested for Alorian spending was %10 of GDP, though some suggested more. We've achieved significant improvements in financing our government in recent years. From a low of less than %1 of GDP, Alorian spending has risen, and now accounts for around %4 of GDP. We're still not investing enough in Aloria, but we've made progress. This bill proposes more progress, substantially increasing our commitments to Aloria's defense, health care, social services, and education. Adjustments are made to most other ministries to account for inflation. We'll leave this bill on the floor for some time for commentary by other parties, and especially other Ministers. If you feel your Ministry requires more or less funding, now is the time to speak up. --Sojourner Smart, Minister of Finance |

Message | We like. We need more though (up to at least 10% as you said) but we understand that before we get their we need to increase revenues. |

Message | You've declined to participate in either of the two budget conferences we've had discussing long range fiscal goals, MLP. But going by history, it is apparent that you would reduce spending to nothing. It's hard to take your position that this is "unnecessary spending" as credible under those circumstances. Our central argument is by analogy. We know that even "conservative" nations' government spending accounts for %20 of GDP, with around 6% of GDP spent on defense, another 4-6% on social services, and the remainder elsewhere. Right now, Aloria's spending consists only of about 4% of GDP, with a little over %1 spent on defense. It's not even clear that we're adequately protected from international threats. And you're still not only against spending increases, but actually promoting more budget cuts? |

Message | Why do you increase defense so much? We need food, social service and education for Alorians, not weapons! We vote against! |

Random fact: Don't put "the" as the first word in your party name, because when parties are referred to in news reports, their names are preceded with "the", e.g. the [Socialist Party] has lost. |
Random quote: "If democracy is ever to be threatened, it will not be by revolutionary groups burning government offices and occupying the broadcasting and newspaper offices of the world. It will come from disenchantment, cynicism and despair caused by the realization that the New World Order means we are all to be managed and not represented." - Tony Benn |
