Bill: New Tax Law
Details
Submitted by[?]: Alorian Public Union
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2533
Description[?]:
The Publitrican Party propose to adjust the government's income tax policy to better address the economic situation of the Democratic Republic of Aloria. Replaces Income tax (virtually eliminating it) with a sales tax on luxury goods. People are thus taxed on spending indulgances rather then on earnings. Still is somewhat progressive, since it is on non-essential goods. This should cover current budget needs, and beyond. |

Message | We think low income people ought to be able to afford some luxuries too. Plus, the income tax prevents excessive wealth buildup. |

Message | Why should the low income be spending their money on rings and ect when they should be focusing their money on bills. |

Message | Middle class people don't buy any luxury items? Who do you think a 33% increase would hurt the most? And that's not including the businesses which employ people who produce and sell these overtaxed goods. Where would the jobs go with these kind of tax cutting into employer costs and profits? |

Message | Point taken, MLP. But I would of thought you might prefer a sales tax to an income tax. But alas, my attempt to compromise is at a loss. Perhaps you can offer something better? This is going to be hard if your party is unwilling to compromise on method seeing as most of the other parties are unwilling to compromise on revenues. I have no problem with the income tax now. You do. You don't have any problem with making less revenues. I do. I was trying to bridge the gap here. |

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action. |
