Message | Agreed. A volunteer military will attract those of our citizens who are interested in serving in uniform -- and who are likely to be the most capable in this field (relative to other fields) as well -- without forcing anyone. Quality over quantity. However, please increase the pay for our brave citizens who do choose to serve, both during their time in our armed forces and a nice pension after they've retired. |

Message | Our military receive payment according to the demand and supply mechanism. The labour market determines the pay structure. |

Message | No, since when were our military paid like that? The government sets their pay, and while they try to keep it in line with national earnings, there is no free market involved. As it is, the current situation does not lead to a massive unqualified army, because many citizens choose not to join the military, and many that do choose to stay on as professionals. We firmly believe that national service provides a benefit to the nation and to the individual, binding the youth to their homeland. |

Message | That's a typical socialist reflex. as one might expect. If we have many vacancies and not enough applicants the state will improve conditions (like a pay rise) in order to keep the current military on board and to attract new recruits. If we have no vacancies etc. The state will respect the current contracts of course. |
Date | 19:54:17, February 18, 2008 CET | From | Kirlawan Popular Front | To | Debating the Conscription |
Message | A nation's military is not a marketable commodity - market forces should not apply. |
Date | 00:43:45, February 19, 2008 CET | From | Christian Socialist Party | To | Debating the Conscription |
Message | National service encourages social solidarity and responsibility. |
