Message | Since it doesn't look like the luxury tax bill is going to pass, we propose this income tax adjustment to bring the budget back into balance. We believe the upper tax brackets are as high as they should be. At 6,500 ALOs, however, we're still taxing well into the upper half of Alorian income earners. |

Message | See, it starts with the rich now the "working-class-friendly" DR lay the bill at the door of the poorer folks, too. Creeping taxation to help fund a fat budget. |

Message | "Poor?" If you'd do your homework, you'd know $6500 is still well into the upper half of Alorian income earners. It's good that you've revealed, though, that all your talk of "compromise" and "unity" was hot air. It's fairly obvious when we submitted the last budget that we hadn't realized the luxury tax repeal had passed. We're not in the habit of submitting budgets out of balance, and there's no reason for us to start now. Had you been acting in good faith, your response would have been, "hey, I'm not sure if you realize there aren't the funds for this. You seem to have overlooked something." Instead you jumped on this as an opportunity for more smear politics. We saw through you all along. Everyone else does now, too. |

Message | The luxury tax levy failed. If the income tax bill doesn't pass, we'll have to cut the budget back. |

Message | IF YOU DID YOUR HOMEWORK DR, you'd understand a BUDGET DEFICIT leads to less purchasing power from the dollar. THUS POORER CITIZENS who you then TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX. |

Message | The Deficit hasn't been around long enough (We've had enough years of surplus) It was your bill that did away with the sales tax that caused the deficit |

Message | MLP, we're not in favor of deficit spending as a matter of policy, except in rare circumstances like war or serious recession. This happened as a result of an error. We take responsibility for that error, but the fact is the tax bill that produced the deficit was one you submitted. That's consistent with your party's long history of slashing taxes without first cutting spending, producing large budget deficits. We have a problem to fix. We're pretty confident it will be fixed this term. If the political support doesn't appear for this level of taxation, we won't have any choice but to cut the budget back. There's another possibility, too, I suppose. Since income tax and budget bills have to pass by a majority of the legislature (rather than by a majority of voting parties), it's possible no political consensus will develop. In that case, we'll have a sustained deficit until GDP growth catches up enough to draw in enough revenues to meet the budget. We don't favor that approach for some of the reasons you describe (inflation). On the other hand, deficit spending does have the advantage of encouraging rapid economic growth. Aloria will survive either way. We believe the most prudent approach is to balance the budget now with a tax adjustment. But if no consensus develops, Aloria will get along. |

Message | Your party created the problem. We have been pushing tax cuts AND spending for decades. Your party specifically has ALWAYS proven to be the main opposition. Don't try to shift the blame either, DR. We haven't had a conservative majority in parliament in this nation for decades. The liberal bloc has ballooned spending and then ballooned tax increases and still you can't keep a balanced budget. The sad part is, these measures (which your party usually spearheads) are approved time-and-time again. Your time to "fix" problems has been tested and failed. You might talk a tough game about economics and the pros and cons of deficit spending, but your actions speak otherwise. Your party needs to vote FOR spending decreases AND tax decreases. We've tried your way for the past 2 decades, now try ours. |

Message | They're approved "time-and-time again" because even now, at %10 of GDP, Aloria's budget is still pretty lean. We're just now emerging from a longer term budget crisis in which Aloria's military and social services were emaciated. |
