Bill: PUA Drug Subsidy Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Pan-Sekowo Freedom Alliance
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2536
Description[?]:
We should not bow to the wishes of rich drug company lobbyists. Economically, if a drug is vital enough, it will be pruchased all the time. We need not subsidise all medicine, as it is in the interests of drug companies to maximise their sales, meaning that with moderate regulation, every citizen will be able to aford drugs. We need not spend billions of dollars on subsidys when cheaper regulations can have the same effect, while making our drug companies more competitive, which will increase the rate new and better drugs are discovered. This way we get BETTER drugs, as well as cheaper. |

Message | OOC: When you are paying $1,000 a month for a 2 second needle, without government or insurance paying it, it's a nightmare. In Canada, we have MediCare (or HillaryCare for the Americans). This isn't just a $15 a month telephone line, this could get too costly. I'm going to oppose it because personal experience has shown that it does not always work well otherwise. |

Message | [My fiancée's experience in Canada is that healthcare is both more costly and less efficient for those who have insurance (which, even in the US, over 90% of Americans qualify for or have Health Insurance). When the doctors were concerned she might have breast cancer in Canada, they "rushed" a biopsy, which evidently in Canada means she only had to wait 1 month for the appointment.] |

Message | [Also, in the US at least, drug manufacturers spend more money lobbying Congress than any other company. Why? Because there is very, very, very good money in drugs. They're making a huge profit, and if they can get more government subsidies, the cost does not go down, it goes up. Profit rises. While the cost may be spread among all Sekowans, and not just consumers (though this is in fact what health insurance does anyway), the cost per drug would almost certainly be higher as things stand than would be with the passing of this bill.] |

Random fact: It is not allowed to call more than 5 elections in 5 game years in a nation. The default sanction for a player persisting in the early election tactic will be a seat reset. |
