Bill: CP.0043.2536 New Legislative Term

Details

Submitted by[?]: Conservative Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2539

Description[?]:

Proposing to amend the constitution so that elections are held every 4 years. (changed from 5 years in Feb 2537)

The government spends too much time focusing on elections instead of issues on hand. Give the cabinet a mandate of two extra years so that there are fewer occurrences of struggles in the future.

Pros of this bill are lower costs and greater stability in the Folkstmma.

MessageAfronts to democracy? We're surprised the DSP isn't calling out Civil War because Sekowo currently has 36 month terms, and not 24 month ones!

MessageThis bill further more furthers democracy by allowing an elected cabinet to work with been thrown into an election.

22% of all months between elections are unused because bills issued within 8 months of elections are sent back to debate. In a 5 year system, the percentage drops to 13%, nearly half. That means the voice of the people are heard 9% more. Less waste.

The CP does not believe the DSP has poor mathematical skills and that DSP often acts on emotions rather than think so the CP formally asks that they rethink their 'this-is-an-affront' argument without first calculating it through.

OOC: Oooo ... an answer before I had finished my description. Someone is anxious to debate. Debate! Debate! =D

By lengthening terms of office you only increase the risk of corruption.

MessageDoes the DSP want a legislative term of 24? 33% wasted time. 33%! One last time: 33%!!! The CP wonders if the DSP has stop thinking completely. Imagine the frustration of the people.

MessageWe, shockingly enough agree with the DSP on this matter. While government waste IS a problem, we feel that more frequent elections means that unpopular policies can more frequently be punished at the voting booth. We feel a citizens ability to voice their dissent in such a way is a most vital thing to preserve, even if it means we must make concessions when it comes to waste.

However, we find the DSP's threats to be laughable, and a strong a sign as any that they are nothing more than the tools of those who wish to see Sekowan society static, controlled by the hegemony of the left. They seem opposed to any real changes, no matter what they are.

If they are set on opposing positive change by force, we promise them it will be a mistake they will pay heavily for.

MessageWe do not support elections once every 5 years. This would lead to stagnation in the legislature. However we would support a small increase.

MessageWe invite the PSA to try.

Their words reveal the arrogance that underpins the philosophy of the DSP. Them and their rich bakers know better than the people of Sekowo. It doesn't matter if the reforms the DSP is opposed to are backed by a legislative majority, because the will of th DSP, not the people, is what matters.

This is a party that is tired, berift of ideas, and will arrogantly do anything to keep power.
