Bill: Fair Punishment Act 2537

Details

Submitted by[?]: Tukarali Popular Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2538

Description[?]:

We believe that there is a majority for this after the last election.
It is about time that people are punished in a similar manner as to what they have done.
If someone has killed a person is it only fair to the victims family that this person suffer a similar punishment.
Furthermore is it a waste of tax payers money to keep scum like that alive and well in prison.

Message1. You can't prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person is guilty. It would be a gross misjustice to put someone to death when they are innocent. At least false imprisonment can be compensated.

2. Two wrongs don't make a right. It is hypocritical of the state to say "Murder is evil. Unless we do it, then it's fine." Murder is always wrong.

3. It costs more to execute someone than it does to keep them in prison.

There is no justification for capital punishment.

Message2. an eye for an eye.

3. I highly doubt that, when the alternative is a life time in prison.

MessageAh, but there is the first point, which you cannot refute. And we've surely moved on from mere retribution as an aim of punishment, this is the 26th century after all.

And it certainly does cost more. Study after study have proven this.

MessageJDW - your comments are tiresome and unwanted.
It is not us, but you who fail to understand the premises of democracy, respect the people’s wishes and act civil in this great legislature.

Random fact: Moderation will not accept Cultural Protocol updates which introduce, on a significant scale, cultures which are likely to be insufficiently accessible to players. In particular, for all significant cultures in Particracy, it should be easy for players to access and use online resources to assist with language translation and the generation of character names. Moderation reserves the right to amend Cultural Protocols which are deemed to have introduced significant cultures that are not sufficiently accessible and which are not being actively role-played with.

Random quote: "They can call us communists and fascists all they want but, their words are of a hollow ring with the blood of innocence at their feet." - Mathew Jameson, former Hutorian politician
