Bill: Project Iron
Details
Submitted by[?]: Saiserist League
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2539
Description[?]:
1. A full-scale military re-armament program is to be put into place as soon as the troops are brought back to native lands, and will not be considered complete until they exceed pre-war levels, to be called Project Iron 2. A substantial amount of this program will also be directed at modernizing equipment with increased emphasis on the Air Force in particular, yet without detrimenting the Army, in an attempt to not repeat the mistakes that cost us this Coburan conflict 3. Military funding shall not be cut or slashed, and so undermine Project Iron from it's completion, and the military budget must be respected as one of the fundamental blocks of Zardugal 4. Project Iron is scheduled to be fully completed by May 2544, and failure to meet this deadline will result in a Directory investigation and report on the conduct of whoever was tasked with implementing Project Iron |

Message | "As it is, the military is getting too much of our nation's budget. We need to cut this vast sum down. Already it comprises more than two thirds of our national budget! More importantly, we have no use for 75% of it, even with the current Next Generation Fighter Aircraft, Zumwalt-class destroyer, Seawolf-class fast-attack submarine, AW-26 advanced warfighter, E-8 Joint STARS airborne battle management system, Ford-class aircraft carrier and so on. There is no need for these funds to be wasted. So please divert them to the rest of our nation's portfolios." Admiral Michael Tiernan, Minister for Defence |

Message | Then raise taxes to provide for other programs. But the military budget is sacrosanct. As "soldiers" you should respect that. |

Message | 'The Soldiers of Destiny should be court-martialled for this. They call themselves soldiers, but are really sissy cowards when it comes to war. The best thing about General Ignatiev is his pristinely clean uniform'. |

Message | "Then raise taxes to provide for other programs. But the military budget is sacrosanct. As "soldiers" you should respect that." Once again, the Saiserist League completely misses the point. We are spending as much money as we need to to provide the best military on Matajra. However, there is no point whatsoever in giving us two thirds of the nation's budget to do so. Especially when we don't use it and have to give it back to the national treasury. All this bill will do is ensure that people will pay more tax without any increase of military power. Already, the key defence programmes (NGFA, JSTARS, AW-26 upgrade, Ford, Zumwalt, Seawolf, G-36C, NGT.) are being funded with only 250,000,000,000 ZAR. There is no reason to give us an additional 750,000,000,000 ZAR! |

Message | If we cut it to what the Soldiers of Destiny are proposing (25% of its current rate) we'll lag far behind many of our neighbors. We cannot allow a defense gap, and we must maintain our total military dominance in the region (contested only by Deltaria) |

Message | We will not lag behind because we do not NEED the extra 750,000,000,000 ZAR. Why is the Saiserist League meddling in an affair that it has no right to? |

Message | 1. We're a militarist party with deep roots in the military 2. We were the orchestrators of the Zardugali military build-up and rearmament, and subsequently the Coburan war and the handling of it. The better question is what real authority the Soldiers of Destiny have, as their pacifist intentions belie their bombastic rhetoric. |

Message | "The better question is what real authority the Soldiers of Destiny have, as their pacifist intentions belie their bombastic rhetoric." We're not pacifists, we believe that there's no need to be throwing money at the military without any need for it |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, it is the responsibility of players to ensure the candidate boxes on their Party Overview screens are filled in with appropriate names. If a player is allotted seats in a Cabinet bill and has not filled in names for the relevant candidate position, then the program will automatically fill in the positions with names which might not necessarily be appropriate for the Cultural Protocols. |
