MessageTraditional fuels are damaging to the environment. It is a simple matter to require new cars to run on environmentally friendly fuels, and even relatively simple to convert existing cars to do so. We have already assented to treaties affirming out commitment to protecting the environment, and this is the next logical step.

MessageWe'll oppose as well. It will take time to develope such vehicles and they will be expensive when they first come out.

MessageWhile we agree with JUP in principle, it would be prefered if people did drive environmentally friendly cars, but it is not economically feasible nor responsible to make this a law.

MessageThe same thing would've been said about requiring seatbelts in cars. Until this becomes law, there will be no development. There is no better time than the present.

MessageWTF? No development until this becomes law? WOW that is fucking retarded.

MessageYes, if nothing's been developed yet, then without massive impetus it never will be. That will either come from conventional fuels being depleted, or state action. The latter is preferable.

MessageUm JUP? I think you missed RP's point! The point is that this law does not need to be passed in order for research to take place. This law, if passed, will have severe economic consequences as people who live 30minutes by car will be unable to go to work and thus will be out of a job. Do you want to be responsible for the unemployment rate going up?

MessageThat's entirely untrue. They can take public transport. They can get an environmentally friendly car, or alter their current car. They can move. They can bike. There are a number of options available to them.

Research will take place, but at a slow meandering rate. If we pass this law, there will be massive economic benefits for a company to develop cheap infrastructure. In the long term, this law will do nothing but help the environment. In the short term, there will be some disruption to people's methods of transport, but nothing that cannot be overcome.

And what if Public Transportation does not go to where they are working?

MessageThen they can take any of the other options. Perhaps you should finish reading what came after that, rather than taking that quote essentially out of context.

Except that Biking is not an option if you have to pettle an hour to get to work. Walking is out of the question and if this bill passes, so is riding the bus and taking a cab. That's not taking out of context CH, the only other option is train but then that brings me back to my point of what if there is no train station within walking distance?

You have not though this out, it is obviou you think that everything is within distance to either walk or bike or train but that is not always the case. You want to put thousands of people out work and we will not tolerate it.

MessageThen someone can get a car running on environmentally friendly fuels, that is not an unreasonable thing to do.
