Bill: Religion Reform Act of 2548

Details

Submitted by[?]: Solentian Populist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2549

Description[?]:

The United Democratic Party believes that current religious policies are in need of some amount of reform. Firstly, we believe that teacher-led prayer should prohibited in non-religious schools. Just as students have the right not to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, they should also have the right not to be forced into prayer by teachers. Second, the government should take no official stance on religion; there should be no official state religion, regardless of whether membership is voluntary.

Signed,
Director of Education and Culture, Roberta Burke

MessageWith all due respect, would the Solentian Radical Nationalist Party please explain to us how protection from forced religious views and practices is nonsensical?

MessageReligion is good. It uplifts us, makes us better. Solentia has a long tradition of church involvement. Do not tear our culture apart.

MessageAgain, respectfully, I do not deny that religion is good and uplifting. Religion has had a wonderful and important presence in Solentia, and the United Democratic Party in no way wishes to diminish or harm that presence.

We believe that every single person in Solentia has the right to worship as they please; however, religion is not something that can be forced on people by the federal government. Our government should not advocate any one religion over all others.

Furthermore, individuals have a right to practice no religion whatsoever and the U.D.P. does not believe in forcing those individuals to engage in practices that they are clearly uncomfortable with.

Again, for clarity, this legislation does not harm those who wish to engage in religious activities; it merely offers protection for those citizens of equal important who do not wish to be involved in religion.

Signed,
Director of Education and Culture, Roberta Burke

Random fact: Particracy does not allow real-life brand names (eg. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Microsoft). However, in the case of military equipment brand names it is permitted to use simple number-letter combinations (eg. T-90 and F-22) borrowed from real life, and also simple generic names, like those of animals (eg. Leopard and Jaguar).

Random quote: "Remember that government doesn't earn one single dollar it spends. In order for you to get money from the government, that money must first be taken from somebody else." - Governor Jesse Ventura
