Bill: Service Reform Act of 2550
Details
Submitted by[?]: Solentian Populist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2551
Description[?]:
Current Solentian law requires that all adults, upon completion of schooling, must serve either a term in the military or a lesser paid term of civilian national service, at their option. The United Democratic Party does not believe that any adult should be required by law to join the military or civilian national service, particularly those who wish to further their education or to start a career. Also, our military is supposed to be an elite force, not one of two "options" that all Solentians are required to choose from. We do not believe that the current law is appropriate. We move to change the law so that citizens can only be required during times of war. We would greatly appreciate feedback before passing this legislation on to vote. |

Message | I feel the parties in support of this bill fail to realize the benefit on our citizens from being involved in one of our societies greatest assets, our millitary. Time spent serving each persons fellow countrymen is a valuable experience of brotherhood and the skills learned within our armed forces make each individual a more capable member of our work force. |

Message | Having recently came to the consensus that the government ought not determine who can serve in the military (based on race, gender, sexuality, etc.), then we do not understand how this legislation has received so much support. If the government is not to have the power to determine who can serve in the military, then how can it determine that everyone must serve in the military (or civilian national service)? |

Random fact: It usually takes up to an hour for election results to generate. During this time, the "Next Election" date is put forward a month, which is confusing. Do not worry! In a short time, the election result will generate and the "Next Election" date will then correct itself. |
