Message | I don't see why you should be able to sue over things that are true. If factual statements are being made, then I don't see how legal action is justified. |
Date | 08:34:01, April 05, 2008 CET | From | New Liberal Party of Endralon | To | Debating the Reform of Civil Liberties |
Message | As long as the burden of proof lies with the slanderer, we don't see why people should be able to sue over true statements. This is just ridiculous, what is the CP playing at? |
Date | 14:34:30, April 05, 2008 CET | From | Chidan Party | To | Debating the Reform of Civil Liberties |
Message | The CP is defending the right of a citizen to defend their reputation and not have their name slandered and dragged through the media at every possible opportunity. We believe in protecting the dignity and allowing for the equal treatment of all the citizens of Endralon. That, is what we are playing at. |

Message | I wasn't aware it was slander if it was true? |

Message | Technically no, but you know what I mean. No one has the right to invade the privacy of another. |

Message | "Technically no, but you know what I mean." Not..really..lol.. I don't see how reporting something truthful is invading their privacy. Sure if the information was acquired through some invasion of privacy, I could see that, but this doesn't stop that. |
Date | 13:38:24, April 06, 2008 CET | From | New Liberal Party of Endralon | To | Debating the Reform of Civil Liberties |
Message | Surely in that situation the person being sued could make a counter claim over the privacy issue. |
Date | 15:45:04, April 06, 2008 CET | From | Chidan Party | To | Debating the Reform of Civil Liberties |
Message | Basically I misused the term "slander" to have a more general meaning, relating to one individual damaging the name of another, be it truth or otherwise. Replace "damaged" with "slandered" and hopefully my statement will be more coherent. I stand by the belief that my proposal is a step towards protecting the privacy of the citizens of Endralon from the harmful, malicious force that is the media and others who wish to damage their reputation. If I separated this proposal, and put forward Article 1alone, would each party still vote no? |
