MessageUnfortunately we cannot support this legislation - this is, of course, not to say that we advocate nuclear weaponry.
The Hutori Conservative Council is, in foreign policy, a party of realists. We believe in keeping our options open as much as possible in terms of our defence resources. Deliberately legislating against one of our options, albeit a particularly remote one, is dangerous. We would like to remind our fellow parties that, though our country may oppose nuclear weaponry and its use in warfare, other countries will almost undoubtably support nuclear weaponry, and some have probably already constructed them. The ability to research, develop and store nuclear weaponry, in itself, is a deterrant to other nations who, in future, may consider going to war with us. If, on the other hand, we legislate against nuclear weaponry, this is a sign of weakness to potential enemies and gives them a significant advantage over us, particularly because they may well be prepared to develop and store nuclear weaponry.
We agree with the spirit of the legislation, but, in practice, it is likely to be much more detrimental to our foreign policy than beneficial.
