Bill: Electoral Reforms I
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2564
Description[?]:
We think it's only fair that the winner of the elections (thus the largest party) should have the task to form a government. Because most Alorians voted for this party, so it's democratic that the majority of the people can deside (as in: the largest party that has been elected) should form a cabinet. Now there is a chance that the largest party isn't even in the cabinet, and that's not entirly fair to the voters, do you think? |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The constitutional right and responsibility to propose a cabinet to the legislature.
Old value:: Each party can propose a cabinet coalition.
Current: Each party can propose a cabinet coalition.
Proposed: Only the largest party can propose a cabinet.

Message | It's fair to voters because if they don't like the cabinet choices, they can elect different parties next time around. The current system encourages compromise and coalition building. |

Message | But if a party is becoming the largest of the country, but isn't involved in the government... is that democracy? When the votes of (for example) more then 25% of the Alorians 'get lost'? And even if the largest party has to propose the cabinet, doesn't that still encouraging compromise and coalition building??? I mean, a party alone can't get a majority in parliament (they can, but it's not very likely) so they need other parties anyway to form a coalition... |

Message | To create a cabinet you must have the majority of the parliament, which also means you have the majority of the votes. |
