Bill: Policy on Software Patents
Details
Submitted by[?]: Party for a Federal Meritocracy
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2573
Description[?]:
The arguments on this are similar to those for open/closed source software. Forcing companies to give away their work by disallowing patents simply means companies will not conduct this type of reseearch or development in our country and we will not receive the taxes. Other countries will. We realize that individuals can and do conduct such work here, as do some foundations, organizations, and charities. We also realize that taxes on such are less (if not zero) and that the resources focused on this are less than if companies join the fray. Consider also, what sort of software are we getting and using in Jakania if the newest formulae and algorithms are not used in software sold here because the companies that developed them (in other countries) are unwilling to forgo their patents simply to sell a product here? Private companies exist to make a profit and they must be allowed to do so or they will not make their products available here. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The patenting of software techniques.
Old value:: Software designs, techniques, formulae and algorithms cannot be patented.

Message | This one is less easy than the open source one. Of course, it'll pass no matter how we vote, so we can safely vote with our policies. |
