MessageStrongly against. I don't support treaties, countries shouldn't govern other countries.

MessageMy party supports. We believe that internalism is good, and that this treaty does not in any way threaten our nations sovriegnity as most of the treaties article a re already commonly accepted by this government. A nation can't just put its head in the sand and pretend nothing is happening.

MessageThis treaty does not represent any threat of your sovereignity, but represents an institution of mutual cooperation in defence and security matters. Rutania and Aloria are neighbours, they should cooperate and be friends. Therefore I call you to enter this alliance.

In case you don't, we still call you to establish an agreement wich will foster our friendly relations, not just in security matters, also in economical, cultural, scientific and other areas.

Signed,
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Rutania, George Thurmann

Messageno they don't. So long as the treaty is accepted democratically, its perfectly in line with democracy.

MessageDemocratically accpted by the parliament in aloria elected by alorians and democratically elected by thewlegislature in rutania democratically elected by rutanians. Both countries agree democratically to consent, there fore nothing about such a treaty is contradictive to the principles of democracy.

MessageTreaties don't defeat the purpose of democracy when they're democratically ratified by all nations which are parties to the treaty, and can be withdrawn from at any time through democratic action.

In fact, treaties represent a higher form of consensual government than regular democracy, at least as they exist in Aloria. They require a 2/3ds majority to ratify, and only a 1/2 majority to withdraw from. The will of the people must strongly favor a treaty to make and sustain it as law.

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.
