Message | This is a very interesting debate as their are two strong sides to the argument. Though as a former Justice minister for Soletnia and a Judge by former profession, I know that the death penalty offers an incentive for people to stay out of trouble and not to commit serious offences. If this punishment is in place, crime stays low and is cut and can be reduced, which is why the People Party will vote NO. Judge Rita Brown QC, Justice Spokesperson for PP |
Date | 04:34:54, May 19, 2008 CET | From | Hutori Conservative Council | To | Debating the Revolutionary Communist Bill: Abolishing the Death Penalty |
Message | Absolutely not. The death penalty is not only necessary as a deterrant for potential criminals, but as an appropriate punishment of retribution for capital offences. We believe that, in order for criminals to be punished proportionate to their crimes, they must be given a punishment of a similar severity to their actions against others - ie, of they take someone's life, their life should be taken in retribution; if they rape someone or sexually abuse children, that is tantamount to ruining lives, and their life should be taken in retribution, and so on. We must make sure that justice and punishment is balanced and proportionate, and we must ensure that criminals fear the criminal justice system, rather than paying no heed to it whatsoever. The Hutori Conservative Council was the party that instigated the death penalty in Hutori, and we firmly stick by this decision. |
