MessageThis is not an attempt to undermine our own votes to allow strictly regulated private schools as an alternative to public schools; it is simply to say that such schools must be secular.

Our nation's previous policy was horribly incoherent, with private schools banned but religious schools allowed, when religious schools are a type of private school-- or we hope they are, anyway; the thought of public religious schools is enough to make one shudder.

We also know that forced religious training is awful for a student that does not believe in the doctrine being taught, and by high school some most definitely have come to rebel.

That is the purpose behind this bill.

MessageI very reluctantly accept this treaty at the current time. After all I had to attend Catholic schools growing up and being of a Jewish persuasion I truly resented it. I believe or at least parents and their synagogues can instill a deep faith and respect of Judaism in them.
No offense I care much less for teaching children love of Christianity and/or Islam just because I'd rather they be Jewish, but I have to tell myself that religion is often times better than no religion.

MessageNO! Please don't do this! This is completely unfair and biased against religion! Why are you so against people's faith? Where i live, Catholic schools are respected institutions. They do not force the students to follow Catholicism, but enrich their lives with moral teachings. What about the Jesuit colleges, what about church/muslim/jewish day schools and preschools. They would all be closed down. This is absurd and biased towards religion. Please reconsider.

Message"They do not force the students to follow Catholicism, but enrich their lives with moral teachings." - I may agree with some of the things you said, but I take issue with this comment. I went through Catholic schools and while they may not brainwash you and force you into Catholicism, it is still an outrageously unpleasant state to be in when you don't necessarily believe in the religion.

MessageExactly. I was not in this position, but I can imagine how awful it would be. And I do know someone who was, for whom it was an awful experience.

MessageOh, and Jesuit or other religious colleges would not be affected. This applies to elementary and secondary schools. It actually doesn't even apply to preschools, although I don't know if the law allows for private preschools.

MessageI feel people should have the freedom of choosing whether to send their children to secular schools or religious private schools. By making religious schools illegal we would be crossing church and state in a manner unfair and uncalled for against religious peoples. I myself am of a religious persuasion and would hope any children I have also learn the fruits of my faith. If I could change anything about my life, I would choose to be born and raised Jewish surrounded by the many beliefs and traditions since birth rather than missing that and wasting so many years of my life oblivious of it. Who am I to say a person cannot have these experiances that I so long for?

MessageWe believe that we must protect children from "abstience only" sex education and from the teaching of creationism, in addition to general religious indoctrination efforts. Children should not be made to suffer for the mistakes of their parents.
