MessageIndeed. Quite so.
We didn't fight for over 18 years to negotiate.
You are but an inch from utter destruction. Surrender now.

Why will you not support this.

MessageAs I feel the role is similar and it is bureaucratic nonsense to have two people doing the same sort of job or at least a job one person could manage. The Head of Government should be head of state

FromDemocratic Socialist Union
ToDebating the Good Tuesday Agreement
MessageThe role isn't similar.

The Head of State is directly elected, the Head of Government is not.

That makes for a HUGE difference.

MessageBut the tasks involved are VERY similar.

MessageNo. The Head of Stae is a figurehead and overseer and is overall leader of the nation. The Head of Government leads the cabinet and oversees parliament.

MessageIf you've read the description the Head of State will be the overseer and elected official and the King would be purely a figurehead. When peace is wanted both sides have to give a little.

ToDebating the Good Tuesday Agreement
MessageWe agree with the sentiments of comprimise, and we would be willing to comprimise in some fashion if it meant the ending of this war, but unfortunately we can never comprimise on the King. We believe firmly in the monarch, as a traditional institution from which all of Hutori's finest values, culture, and customs have arisen, and any arbitrary change to this is simply unnacceptable.
As mentioned before, we would certainly be willing to comprimise, but we cannot comprimise on that.

MessageAnd we would never be willing to accept the king as a head of state, even if his power is purely ceremonial.

MessageFurthermore, if me, and the DNP, both reject this, there won't be peace, as the Confederation as a whole would have rejected it.
The bill would pass, but there wouldn't be peace. We haven't come this far to back down now. The People don't want a king. Not entirely. More than half of the people voted for parties that are openly Republican, and it is my duty not to let those people down.

Date17:10:19, May 26, 2008 CET
FromDemocratic Socialist Union
ToDebating the Good Tuesday Agreement
MessageAnd although some parties are willing to compromise, in order for peace, which I do genuinly admire, the Confederation is at a point now where it can crush the Union in several months time. Therefore I feel that this "peacetreaty" is not "worthy" of Confederate support.

I sincerely hope the DNP will follow me in this.

And, please, HCC, spare me your comments about how evil I am.

MessageYou will crush the mainland Union, most probably. But we could move the Vascania most easily, and attack from there.

OOC: If we get the Vascania country, you could drive us out into the sea.

FromGroene ArbeidersPartij

MessageThe PRCP is right about this. Millions of people have died for this war, so we feel it would be stupid to make silly compomises like this now. If so many people have fought and died for the republic, a republic is what we shall give them. And a king who's only purpose is show and statute, is not worthy to be called king. We oppose.

Date17:21:35, May 26, 2008 CET
FromDemocratic Socialist Union
ToDebating the Good Tuesday Agreement
MessageIf you move to Vascania you will no longer be a Hutorian party, and you will no longer have any power in this nation. (OOC even if you don't get the country)

MessageThe people have shown that they want a King. And a King they shall have. You shall not silence the people.

ToDebating the Good Tuesday Agreement
MessageAs I said, half of the people votes for openly Republican parties. This means that "the people" do not want a king. Less than half wants a king.

And we are here to protect the other half from the madness of "your"' half.

Date18:55:08, May 26, 2008 CET
FromConservative Union Party
ToDebating the Good Tuesday Agreement
MessageNot always. I'm sure plenty of monarchists vote for the FGGP, being the party that cares most openly for the environment, when we the CUP do not. And you do not have the 2/3rds majority from the electorate needed to forge a republic. There will be Maquis rebeliions.

Date18:56:05, May 26, 2008 CET
FromDemocratic Socialist Union
ToDebating the Good Tuesday Agreement
MessageAs I said, when you retreat to Vascania along with the HCC, you will no longer be a Hutorian party, and you will no longer be able to stop the Republic from forming.

Random fact: Particracy allows you to establish an unelected head of state like a monarch or a president-for-life, but doing this is a bit of a process. First elect a candidate with the name "." to the Head of State position. Then change your law on the "Structure of the executive branch" to "The head of state is hereditary and symbolic; the head of government chairs the cabinet" and change the "formal title of the head of state" to how you want the new head of state's title and name to appear (eg. King Percy XVI).

Random quote: "You have all the characteristics of a popular politician: a horrible voice, bad breeding, and a vulgar manner." Aristophanes (450 BC - 388 BC), Knights, 424 B.C.
