| Sec. 1 SHORT TITLE This act may be cited as the 'Abortion Act 2586' Sec. 2 PROVISIONS A. Any person who knowingly or recklessly causes the termination of a pregnancy, or who assists in the termination of a pregnancy, or which administers, sells, or gives any drug or chemical substance which is intended to cause abortion in a woman after the twelfth week of gestation, and which results in an abortion, is guilty of first degree murder. B. Except as provided in subsection A, any person who administers, sells, or gives any drug or chemical substance which is intended to cause an abortion in a woman after the twelfth week of gestation, is guilty of a felony and shall be imprisoned not less than twenty years. C. Notwithstanding any of the foregoing, a licensed medical doctor may perform an abortion if, on reasonable and probable grounds, he believes that the continuation of the woman's pregnancy will result in her death. Sec. 3 EFFECTIVENESS The provisions of this act shall take effect immediately. |

| Message | Vanuku previously held legislation that abortion was legal at any stage during a pregnancy, a situation so monstrously out of touch with safe medical practices that we - the Vanuku Sinatranoan Party - welcomed the Vanuku Freedom Party's proposed legislation. Now we have legislation trimming this to the first trimester only. We still support this new law on the grounds that in cases of medical emergencies, an abortion may still be performed after the first trimester. We support this Act, however... Should any future legislation come before the Grand Council seek to make abortions illegal except through medical emergencies, or even illegal completely, we shall oppose. |
