Bill: Gun Control Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Social Justice Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2590

Description[?]:

Gun control is an enormous waste Government money, it has not been proven effective in terms of crime and homicide and it just a hassle to the law abiding citizens who wish to purchase firearms. If a criminal is going to commit a crime with a firearm, they will not care if you need a license, they will obtain these weapons illegally. Gun control is unnecessary and a huge waste of tax dollars.

MessageWe, the Vanuku Sinatranoan Party, table the following documents detailing previous debate upon this issue.

The successfully passed "Shooting From the Lip Act 2563"
http://80.237.164.51/particracy/main/viewbill.php?billid=185846

And the unsuccessful "Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act 2575" http://80.237.164.51/particracy/main/viewbill.php?billid=191667

As always, debate is welcome with a new angle to support this proposed legislation, although we do not feel it is likely to be successful, given that it does not include even a basic attempt at preventing sales of arms to violent criminals or mentally disturbed individuals. If this is because "Gun control is unnecessary and a huge waste of tax dollars", then we feel they are dollars well wasted, despite recently proposed tax cuts reducing the available dollars on the grounds that "We do not need such high taxes". We feel that items as dangerous as firearms should not be made available carte blanche, despite the "hassle" this may cause to citizens.

Any thoughts anyone?

MessageDefend oneself from whom? We have a standing military, compulsory military service, and an intricate network of national defence (as laid out by previous legislation).

This law is not necessary. Indeed, it will increase violent crime, reduce the capacity for effectively controlling violent crime, and endanger citizens by reducing the capacity for authorities to restrict firearms to those who should not obtain them. The Vanuku Gun and Armaments Registration Division (VanGuARD) is doing an excellent job currently in curtailing illicit gun sales, and preventing those who should not possess weapons from obtaining them.

We vote NO.

MessageOh, and by the way, kudos for allowing one post and ten months' leeway for debate on this issue. Incredibly noble.

MessageGun registry has not been a proven method of reducing gun crime. If someone is going o kill another person, or rob a store, they will do it with some other means. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
