Bill: The Classical Federalism Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Family and Tradition Party (disbanded)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2590

Description[?]:

In the interests of allowing local and state governments their own regional authority over issues that are of most concern to local communities and families, the FTP believe that the following government responsibilities should be left to local governments. The federal government should have no right to undermine the absolute regional authority of states, especially in regards to matters which are clearly of local concern.

MessageWe pose a question to those parties who have voted against this legislation:
What is it that they have against small government? What is it that they have against local authority?
We are dissapointed to see that so many parties of Trigunia are so committed to big, centralized government, and the demand for forced uniformity throughout the entire country.
Do the parties of this nation spare no thoughts for the local families and communities who have to submit to a big, unified bureaucracy? Is there no logic in allowing states to determine matters of local importance for themselves, to narrow the gaping divide between the all-powerful central authority and the poor, hapless subjects they rule over? Does it not make sense that local governments will be more in touch with the needs of their communities, and more responsive to their demands, and less corruptable?
The FTP believes that it is common sense to object to the concentration of power into relatively few hands. The centralized government is an illigitimate structure; a concentration of power and money into the hands of a few, at the expense of local families and communities, and the over-simplification and generalization of issues that effect localities the most.
We are dissapointed to see such an important legislation so strongly opposed, even by the Christian Conservative Party. Once again, however, we are glad to see our good allies the Christian Soldiers voting with common sense.
We will never give up the fight for small government and minimal central bureaucracy in Trigunia - not until at least the majority of parties in Trigunia can see the common sense in small government.

MessageAfter the latest congress of Socialie Anarhisti movement we decided to switch our attitude. We must promote the local governments. Let the smaller communities decide!

MessageWe know that the local governments are already powerful, and we strongly encourage this. This legislation merely ties up a few lose ends - issues that should be left to local governments that are currently not, in keeping with the decentralized theme of most of the other policies.
We don't just want local governments to be 'strong', or 'powerful'. We want them to be the primary authority in governmental responsibility. We want to eventually reduce the federal government to a body that exclusively takes care of issues that are necessarily of national concern - ie., military issues, trade issues, anything related to foreign affairs. We want to eventually eliminate the majority of the national departments that we feel should be left to local governments exclusively - most notably, departments like health and education. These departments should never have been a federal government initiative in the first place.
Whilst our local governments do have alot of power at the moment, we believe they shouldn't just have 'alot' - we believe they should almost have ALL, especially in all matters of local concern, or any matters that can legitimately be left to local governments. They should certainly be substantially more powerful than the federal government.
As we said, there are only a few responsibilities that we envisage as the role of the federal government, and these are only matters that cannot possibly be delegated to states, such as military, foreign affairs, border control, immigration, etc.
