Message | RP - Today as Yasir al-Amir, leader of the Marxist-Leninist Society, tabled a bill for early elections approximately 15,000 MLS members gathered around the Majelis building in Dar al Badara to protest against, amongst other things, the current leading coalitions past refusals for early elections. Bashir Sa'ad, one of the most radical party members and currently candidate for the Infrastructure Ministry, addressed the crowd. He claimed the sudden loss of two socialist parties was due to governmental interference and slammed the attempts to reduce corporation tax in a rousing 10 minute speech. The Party leadership denied organising the protest, and emphasised the views expressed by Sa'ad were not representative of the whole Party. Feel free to add on in RP. (no god-modding) |
Date | 18:34:30, September 24, 2005 CET | From | Majatran Socialist Party | To | Debating the Call for early elections, September 2115 |
Message | RP - 120 members of the BASP's armed wing, the Arabic Defence Faction, attempted to gain access to the Majelis when the bill was put to vote. Al'Badaran police were out in force, and a fire-fight broke out. When the smoke had cleared, 29 of the ADF were killed or injured and the rest had fled the scene. One police officer was dead, and a further 11 were injured. Akram al-Hurani, reputed to be the leader of the ADF, has gone underground and has not been seen since the street battle. |
Date | 00:16:21, September 25, 2005 CET | From | Nacional Unionist Badaran Arbeits Partei | To | Debating the Call for early elections, September 2115 |
Message | At a hastily arranged speach this morning Mr.Boskonov leader of the NUP declared that a state of emergancy should be enacted in the capital to quell the 'terrorists'. He said the NUP fully supported the actions of the police and further named the BASP and MLS as enemys of the state 'hell bent on destroying our nation' 'we must act now and ban these parties to ensure stability is secured. "we also call for Akram al-Hurani and the MLS leadership to be arrested immediatley for treason." |
Date | 00:31:57, September 25, 2005 CET | From | Anarcho-Punks | To | Debating the Call for early elections, September 2115 |
Message | Al'Badarn Vizier Melchior Roberts issued a statement today in response to the current crisis: "The notion of blaming the government for the disbanding of a party is absurd. The Socialists are a minority, even when both parties were active, so their presence does not affect the balace of power in the Majelis. Protesting is fine, because as a Libertarian I believe in the rights of the people. However, the outright rebellion of the BASP is not acceptable. This nation is a democracy, and all parties must accept that fact and work within the system instead of around it." |
Date | 02:41:21, September 25, 2005 CET | From | Progressive Liberal Coalition | To | Debating the Call for early elections, September 2115 |
Message | The leader of the PLC hastily released a statement in response to the crisis in the capital: "We would like to express our deepest regret in the recent shootings in the Majelis. We want to immediately call an investigation in the attack and call in the army to secure the capital in order for the government to function. The BASP should also be investigated and should renounce all ties to ADF and call for its disarmament immediately! Otherwise, our party will be forced to take action. We will continue to support the government in this tough time." |
Date | 06:21:46, September 25, 2005 CET | From | Union of Progressive Ulama | To | Debating the Call for early elections, September 2115 |
Message | Leaders of the Union of Progressive Ulama scrupulously avoided any comment, both on the position of the government and on reports of UPU activists being seen protesting. However, the party council did decide to back the call for early elections. "There are too many empty seats in the Majelis," said leader Abdur Rahman Wahid. Mosques sympathetic to the UPU threw open their doors to mourners, calling for all involved to "submit to the will of God by campaigning for social justice." |
Date | 14:33:15, September 25, 2005 CET | From | Revolutionary Socialist Council | To | Debating the Call for early elections, September 2115 |
Message | Yasir al-Amir gave an interview to the Daily Crescent, in which he denied the protests as being organised by his party. "The demonstration was organised by the more radical elements in the MLS," he claimed, before continuing, "However, it was an entirely democratic and peaceful protest. Unfortunately it was sabotage by thugs from the BASP." Mr al-Amir remained convinced at the need for early elections, and suggested the Conservative Party may be scared of going to the polls due to a backlash for their 'mismanagment of the country'. He also lashed out at the NUP, demanding they stop 'fuelling the fires of social unrest'. |
Date | 23:15:39, September 25, 2005 CET | From | Anarcho-Punks | To | Debating the Call for early elections, September 2115 |
Message | The Al'Badaran Conservative Party is not afraid of going to the polls. We oppose early elections because the ABCP/PLC majority is unaffected by the demise of a party. |
