Message | There is no requirement to do this, moreover the change would not promote any more local democracy than already occurs. Currently the councils are elected by the electorate and they then operate together to exercise all the powers of local democracy. All this bill will do is increase local bureaucracy by introducing another level to bureaucracy whilst increasing costs to the taxpayer without any improvements in operation or in democracy. We would also point out that this is not a bill in its truest sense as there is no description of the changes the act would make, rather it is merely a statement of intent. |

Message | We support the bill as it provides the purest form of demoracy in the local districts. |

Message | Actually this bill reduces democracy in local districts as the current system forces the local councils to vote and act on all items placed before them, whilst this change introduces a dictatorial approach to local government by allowing a single individual increased control over local politics. |
