Bill: AFFS 023.2598 Lawsuit Reform

Details

Submitted by[?]: Anti-Federalists of Free Sekowo

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2599

Description[?]:

Lawyers and clients have the ability to make ridiculous claims and huge amounts of money off of such claims. There should be a cap on these lawsuits, so that a spill of hot coffee doesn't have the potential of making more money than a real, dangerous malpractice suit. Also, it helps keep doctors safe, and malpractice insurance cheaper.

OOC: Moving this to a vote before the election... Will make the details later in an RP bill.

MessageOOC: While it would reduce cost for malpractice insurance, there is also one safeguard that you're forgetting (and the laws don't really mention). Judges set the settlements, at least in the court system I'm familiar with. So long as judges don't give a person 10 billion SEK for a cup of spilled coffee, this isn't really a problem...though I do see your point.

To a point, I agree, but I have reservations against this being set too low. And how far is too low? It should be a case-by-case decision, which we as lawmakers can't really do. However, judges who are there in person, are more capable of making those decisions.

MessageWe are open to suggestions regarding which situations should have fines, for example, injuries should be different than libel, and minor from major. However, being unfamiliar with the economic system precisely, all I can offer is a USD equivalent, without any suggestions.

Just use the USD, it's more or less what our common Dovani currency is supposed to be tied to, and I've gotten tired of the complaining by other people to the point where I could car eless what they think.
