OOC:
Each of the states has two senators, now the above ones that I've added are based on RP stuff, however a great many have never really had alot of emphasis put on them, so they don't have any added from RP.
Sekowo's senators are based on the two largest parties.
Areas marked with Ind. mean that the seat is held by an independent, which means that it will vote with the majority.
Also, these are results, so it does'nt matter how you vote.
While some Senate seats will inevitably change over time, some of them most likely wont IE NPP's in Lyore and mine in Shiratoku.

What, exactly, is the mechanism used to determine senators?

MessageNPP, it's based on RP history primarily.
With the empty seats I filled them with others hence why SIP has two seats and AFFS has one in Teoitan.

CP, we already ave a Senate, I just had'nt gotten around to doing this until recently.

MessageDSP, yes I know we did. But I still don't want a senate. So, as not to encourage it, I vote against it.

OOC: This is actually a debate going on in Canada too. To remove the Senate.

MessageOOC:
How much either side have?

Honestly I prefer bicameral legislatures, that way the legislature can't get huge amounts of power.
I suppose though under my perfect government model you could say I prefer a tricameral legislature since in that model the executive is comprised of five people who have to vote on doing the things the executive does and would be able to create referendum bills.

Message[[So you would support a Republican Oligarchy.

Anyway, these representatives should be based on something beyond pure RP, methinks, to ensure a maximum of fairness, as the DSP seems to really be the only party RPing this much.]]

MessageOOC: The Senate is appointed in Canada and the person may retain the position for life. Like a seat in the House of Lords in the UK. Although, the current government hasn't made many appointments because it's looking to abolish the senate.

I personally prefer a true democracy but that's a bit costly. People vote on the issues, not some fellow who doesn't even know your name. I vote four times a year, usually 2 to 5 issues at a time.

In Switzerland, there is a Federal Council (Bundesrat) consisting of 7 members who are (combined) the head of state. They hold the 7 ministerial positions. So, executive councils are not bad if employed properly.
