Bill: NF Proactive Health Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Nasjonal Front

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2605

Description[?]:

Article 1 is to reduce unmonitored exposure of children to alcohol. We do not oppose the rights of parents to serve their children alcohol within the home such as a glass of wine with dinner. Moderate alcohol exposure lessens the excitement and potential for overdoing it with the coming of legal age.

Articles 2 & 3 are basic common sense and will help promote a healthy nation whilst reducing the load on our health and crime prevention services.

MessageWe are sympathetic towards Articles 1 and 2, but oppose Article 3. The government shouldn't interfere with the freedom of the people to smoke tobacco. Besides, tobacco use is so widespread that outlawing it would only create a massive black market which could end up fuelling organised crime.

MessageOOC: Since it is impossible for us to force smokers to pay for their otherwise free state healthcare we therefor wish to ban the sale of tobacco and stamp out smoking instead. If people choose to smoke and damage their health, they should not expect the State and thusly non-smoking taxpayers to finance their healthcare thereafter.

MessageIt is a misconception that smokers put a greater strain on the health service than non-smokers.

i) Smokers contribute to the treasure significantly through the taxes they pay on cigarettes. Presuming cigarettes are classed as a luxury good, this tax is 50% of the price in Kazulia.

ii) The cost any person's maladies place on the health service depends on how long they last and how expensive they are to treat. A smoker who works and pays taxes all his life and then dies of a stroke at age 65 is, economically speaking, giving the treasury a good deal. By contrast, somebody with a more health-conscious lifestyle who lives to 100 and needs extensive nursing care is going to cost the health service quite a lot.

MessageMaking recreational drugs and tobacco illegal will only create black markets that will fund organized crime, and cause even more crime as addicts start stealing to support their(now much more expensive due to the drug dealers controlling the market) habits. This will also create new problems for our healtcare system because drug users will be forced to share needles, they'll have no option but to take drugs tainted with chemicals even more harmful than the drug itself , and they'll be reluctant to seek treatment for their addictions because of the stigma attatched to them.

Overall, I fail to see how this would be better than the current situation. People won't stop doing things simply because they're illegal, and in cases like this a ban only makes things worse.

MessageOur view would be that the health system refuse to treat smokers or drug users entirely. They make their choices and must live with the consequences.
