Details
Submitted by[?]: Lodamun Libertarian Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2607
Description[?]:
Egelon has been attacked, and the HoS has requested we invoke NATOs article 4, and come to there aid. As promised I will but this up for a vote, and now its up to this parliament to decide our response to this request. Since this would be a decleration of war it will need support from 2/3 of the parliament in additon to the president, prime minster, and minister of defence to pass. Signed President James Mattson OOC: Here is the decleration of war against them http://www.takeforum.com/particracy/viewtopic.php?t=10228&mforum=particracy |

Message | I think the NATO treaty is quite simple, we are to help our comrades. I do not think a neutrality treaty is good enough, if we help them, they just simply can't back out if we need help. |

Message | If We are not going to be using the NATO treaty, we can just withdraw from it. There's no need for a NATO treaty if they don't give us help or if we don't help them. |

Message | The Only reason I vote no is becuase its been said that Egelion didn't offer help when we needed it. I feel you Treat as you are Treated. |

Message | Before we even go further, we would like to know what are the opinions of the Head of State, Head of Government, and Minister of Defense. There would be no point in voting here if one on them disagrees. |

Message | Well, LP, We feel we can just withdraw from the treaty if this do not pass. There is no point of having a NATO treaty if nobody follows it. |

Message | Minister of Justice Gaines has said that it would be a violation of international law to remain a signatory of the NATO treaty yet refuse to comply. We must either abide by it, or abrogate it. |

Message | Our party leader has just been notified that the Axis has taken the side of Egelion in its war with the KCCP. We cannot fight alongside members of the Axis. As such, we cannot vote for this war at this time. If other parties so wish, we are willing to work towards an alliance independent of both Communist and Axis forces -- and alliance which respects the basic rights of man and holds as its ideals Democracy and Liberty. |

Message | I am afraid the Minister of Justice is flat out wrong. Maybe another good read of the article will help. ARTICLE 4: NATO is a defensive alliance which adheres to the principles of collective security. Therefore any hostile act performed upon a member shall be taken as having been performed upon all signatories. To this end, should any hostile act occur upon a member, all members shall assist the signatory or signatories so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other members, such action as members deem necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security, sovereignty and integrity of all member states. This article shall be taken to have been automatically invoked when any said hostile act occurs. "such action as members deem necessary" That clearly means that we have the choice of helping or not. Basically doing whatever we think is necessary. Kate Williams |

Message | That is why I would support helping these people. It is the right thing to do, I will call for an immediate withdrawal from the NATO treaty if we are not going to respond. Prime Minister Sean Martinson. |

Random quote: "The moral justification of capitalism does not lie in the altruist claim that it represents the best way to achieve 'the common good.' It is true that capitalism does, if that catch-phrase has any meaning, but this is merely a secondary consequence. The moral justification for capitalism lies in the fact that it is the only system consonant with man's rational nature, that it protects man's survival qua man, and that its ruling principle is justice." - Ayn Rand |
