Bill: Power To The People Act of 2611

Details

Submitted by[?]: Socialist Party of Aldegar

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 2611

Description[?]:

This bill is a resolution to the Democratic Unity Party that propose we withdraw from the Monarchist Treaty that binds us to a monarchy and form a republic with a Prime Minister and President position. The current way of political life does not work for our nation and we propose that the people get the right to choose their own President. We support this measure and for those who vote yes is a message to the DUP that we support the reinstatement of the republic. A nation by the people most solely for the people.

MessageA constitutional monarchy is fine. What Aldegar need is more separation of power between the Head of State and the Head of Government and more devolution of power to local governments.

MessageThe installation of the republic isn't a one day job.
We are partners in democratizing, but not partners in changing the form of state.
Also, we don't wish to change Aldegar to an inheritive republic.

MessageA badly-named, working government is much better than a well-named, malfunctional one. The society and economy as a whole will suffer from political unrest just because we wish to boast our democracy, which has been there de facto anyway. This proposal is indeed a perfect example of political naivety belongs to the PAP.

MessageHow can the parties commit to democracy when there is an open break in the nation due to the lack of an elected President? I am not suprised the DUP would vote no and rather keep the status qu as well as the old guard. But the Progressives? You stand and say that there needs to be more separation. But the fact is that there is a separation between someone who was chosen not by the people but due to their random birth.

MessageEveryone please read our current country's head of state policy and notice how much power the ruler actually has.

MessageYes, the Padishah has way too much power, but making Aldegar a republic is not the answer. What we need is a symbolic and hereditary Head of State to whom Aldegarians can refer to, and a separate government led by a Prime Minister and a cabinet.
And being progressive is not the same as being for all kinds of changes. Being progressive means that we will support and propose changes to make progress. And making Aldegar a republic is not going to bring progress to Aldegarians.

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action.

Random quote: "When we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, 'Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!'" - Martin Luther King Jr.
